What we’ve been finding this month 👀

Here’s a few snippets of what we’ve been spotting at the moment. We’ve included a few plants and mushrooms we’ve found, why not have a go at spotting them yourselves. 🌱

🌿Yarrow (achillea millefolium)


Very common and easy to identify with it feathery leaves. Yarrow can be found in most grassland. Flowers appear from june-October.

🌿Hogweed (heracleum sphondylium)


One of our favourites however exercise caution with a possible confusion being Giant Hogweed (please do not pick unless 100% sure you know you have the correct plant)

🌿Common Chickweed (stellaria media)


Great for a salad, easy to identify for a novice forager and widespread. Flavour similar to lettuce.

🌿Crow garlic (allium vineale)


Long and hollow, a native plant of the onion family & very similar to chives often used in a similar manner



Must be cooked before consumption! excellent edible, found in open woods, pasture,,gardens & wasteland (view our website for more info)

🌿wood sorrel (oxalis acetosella)


Stems & leaves are sharp & sour, very thirst quenching. Flowers are similar but sweeter

🌿Common Sorrel (rumex acetosa)


Sharp and citrus taste, described by many as like an apple peel.

🌿Forsythia flowers (forsythia x intermedia)


We use the flowers in salads. Yellow tubular flowers, with four petals that only join at the base. Flowers appear on the branches before the leaves. Found in gardens, parks and hedges (it’s a gardening plant)

Hogweed and wild Garlic soup Recipe 🌿

A springtime favourite, one to make when the first shoots of hogweed and wild Garlic leaves start appearing. Like most soup and stews, this is always better for being left overnight so that the flavours can really develop.

Recipe: Hogweed & wild Garlic soup

🌿Hogweed is Found 🌱☀️🍁

🌿Scientific name: Heracleum sphondylium

🌿common names: Hogweed, cow parsnip

🌿Found from March- November along wood edges, besides paths and roadside verges etc

Serves: 4
Prep: 15mins
Cook: 30mins


A double handful of Wild Garlic (approx 200g)

A double handful of hogweed (approx 200g)

1/2 tablespoon olive oil

25g butter

1 onion chopped

1 large carrot, chopped

1 stick of celery, chopped

500ml well flavoured veg stock

2 tablespoons double or soured cream

Salt & freshly ground black pepper

Giant Hogweed! This is a very dangerous plant with phototoxic sap which will burn your skin extremely badly if exposed to the Sun. This is no idle warning, if you want to see how bad the burns can get a simple google search should do the trick.
Giant hogweed, has slightly shinier leaves, more hair in a ring around the stem where the leaf joints are, and more flower stems, and is much larger when mature. Giant hogweed gets to 4 to 5 metres tall, common hogweed is normally around 2 metres or less
